Scott, I have been following the DLP development for some time but only the information that TI puts out. When you take the time to read the white papers on the development of the chip it would appear that the system works very well as far a brightness and contrast. Some of the test results for reliability look excellent. It would appear the biggest headache of the projection system would be the projector bulb. Back in April on the opening day of the baseball season a Dallas TV station broadcast the opening day game in Dallas in HDTV and a TI projector was set up at the ball park with a 21 foot screen. I checked the local newspaper coverage the next day and they indicated the reception at the ball park in a special viewing area was so bright and clear that it was like watching the game looking out a window. (Whatever that means) I would love to have seen it myself because I would like to judge for myself what a consumer would think of a large screen system with a really good picture. Most people have been buying larger and larger TV sets as the larger picture tubes and projection TV's have improved. If you read more of the white papers about the development of the DMD you begin to appreciate the tremendous development effort required to produce a picture digitally with a totally new system. You also get the impression that no will copy the system easily. When NEC and Sony license the use of the technology you can also bet it has merit. I think TI has a Winner with DLP and it could be huge if they can get their manufacturing cost down. They are very clever at making complicated chips.
