Depends on marketcap of stock vs price of shares. Institutional players won't touch most stocks w/ marketcaps of 50 million or less.

Sometimes If the story is hot institutional players will bite but mostly they stay on the sidelines until the company mgmt. has proven itself with a 5 year track record.

That's where VC firms come in. The do the intial seed financing and get the ball rolling and the company management up to speed. THEN they sell to public/institutions....remember XCIT VC firm sold 1 mil @ 87 looks like they made a sweet move. Probably an institutional player bought it to. OUCH!
