>>Moonray, this is good. However, 3Com is too passive in it's V.90 marketing/sales effort. It has control over both sides of the business in its space (ie. consumer and isp). It doesn't take a genius to see the marketing opportunity, but it also has the most to lose if
squandered.<<

I have wondered the same d*mn thing. I'm stumped as to the
reason for this. I'm not aware of all the details so I do
suspect there's a good reason. I thought that maybe the
Rock/USRX battle and the standards war just have to take
a while to 'sizzle down'.

>>The small/medium size ISP that bought "total control" are on thin budget, and they don't have lots of incentive to upgrade. 3Com should not wait around for its ISP to complete the upgrade. It should do every thing in its power to make sure the upgrade
happens. It's called buying a market share.<<

I've also wondered about this. Why doesn't 3Com just do it
for them? What the heck is their thinking on this??
Maximizing future profits somehow???

simonds, I have remarked on the other 3COM thread that the V.90
roll-out this year can't compare with the x2 fanfare of last year.
Great care must be taken, however, to not stuff the channels again.
The accent must be on the ISP side. It just wouldn't do to
have consumers with new V.90 modems searching hither and yon for
a V.90 ISP. I am using a V.90 right now in a rural area at 31Kb,
but got 52Kb with my brother's V.90 ISP.

However, 3Com is too passive in it's V.90 marketing/sales
effort. It has control over both sides of the business in its
space (ie. consumer and isp).
