They use to trade similarly when SEG bought 30% of KMAG's production. I believe after EDS cut orders from SEG, KMAG's shipment dropped to like 5% of their output going to SEG. KMAG must still be having expediture problems associated with closing their plant in San Jose after moving the majority of its production to Malaysia.
If your looking for a disk media maker, checkout HMTT. They are selling the newer high density platters to Maxtor and IBM which are dominating the market. IMO, HMTT will rebound first.
Me, I shorted KMAG from 15 to 14 and haven't had a position for a couple weeks, oh well, I'll take the money.

Pruguy, I know Boeing and Komag is no Boeing. Boeing had and has orders booked many years in advance. They just can't get stuff built and out the door fast enough. OTOH, Komag has just the opposite problem. I think it is a little soon to take the plunge. Komag seems to be responding to their crisis in a responsible fashion but it will require more of these adjustments in future. IMHO : )

Still a bad time to dip into KMAG. Like my last post when KMAG was trading near $9, I didn't think PRUGUY should invest his hard earned dollars into it then, and I think he will see that when it is trading at less than $3 a share it is now even closer to the bottom than to the top.
Bottom fishing is a dangerous sport and their are a lot of sharks on the bottom that you don't see right away (in this case it is todays announcement to cut book value by another $2 or $3 per share)
Good luck. If you are a gambler then invest in KMAG at under $3, if you are an investor, you won't touch this company for at least another year no matter how high or low it goes. Just my $.02.
