Opinions about partial birth abortion are all over the place, DCF. Personally, I don't believe they should be legal unless the fetus is dead, or the mother's actual life is in danger. The studies I've read show that only 30% of Americans are at all comfortable with abortions after the first couple of months of pregnancy. (I would never have one.) Curiously, they are slightly more frequent among Catholic women than Protestant women. Most women who have abortions in America are Christians (not wild pagans or atheists). However, many people, weighing all the factors, reluctantly conclude that there has always been a demand for abortion by women who are in trouble for some reason, and would prefer early abortions to women, often with other children, bleeding to death in alleys after being butchered in unsafe, illegal abortions, or unwanted babies, who tend to be neglected and abused, which is even more painful for the tiny being than is abortion. Some of these choices are not perfect. I think almost everyone would agree that we need to make adoptions simpler, and support pregnant women who choose to have them and give their babies up in every way that we can. And the "pro-life" movement members which are involved with bombing abortion clinics, and killing and maiming staff, make clear that their actual agenda is more about inflicting their morals on others, and controlling women's lives, than it is about saving lives. And of course, if you want the abortion rate to drop, some things that studies show are effective are freely available condoms and other birth control methods for teenagers, non-guilt laden, objective sex education in schools, and open communication by parents with their children about all sexual issues.
