Worldwide Semiconductor Mkt
To Grow 6.0% This Yr: EIAJ

Dow Jones Newswires

TOKYO -- The worldwide semiconductor market will
grow 6.0% in 1998 to $145.5 billion, Electronic
Industries Association of Japan (EIAJ) forecast
Tuesday.

A spokesman for the association characterized this as a
slow recovery, and said it was due to a weaker personal
computer market in Japan, as well as the U.S.

In 1997, the worldwide semiconductor market grew
4% after contracting 8.6% in 1996.

In 2001, the association sees the market at $238 billion
and in 2004 at $335 billion.

In 1997, the worldwide semiconductor market grew
4% after contracting 8.6% in 1996.

(In an item that ran at 0807 GMT, the year for the 4%
semiconductor market growth rate was incorrectly
stated.)
