06/09 15:17 Electric Fuel Announces Disposable Battery for Cell Phones EFCX.O> Electric Fuel Announces Disposable Battery for Cell Phones - Zinc-Air Triples Endurance and Reduces Weight - NEW YORK, June 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Electric Fuel Corporation's (Nasdaq: EFCX) Consumer Battery Division today announced a new zinc-air disposable battery that will offer enough power for a typical user to run an analog cellular phone for up to a week and a digital cellular phone for up to a month, depending on the phone model and the cellular network on which it operates. Based on laboratory tests conducted by the Company, the new battery offers over 6 hours of talk time and 60 hours of standby for analog phones and 15 hours of talk and 200 hours of standby for digital phones. This represents 3 to 4 times more talk and standby time than currently available from comparable rechargeable batteries. The new zinc-air cell phone battery weighs between 20% to 40% less than competing rechargeables and will have a 2-year shelf life. The Company currently estimates that in full production, the batteries will retail for $6.95 - $9.95, depending on the phone model. The materials in the Electric Fuel zinc-air battery are environmentally friendly, recyclable, and are similar to those used in common alkaline batteries. The batteries do not contain volatile or toxic materials, such as lithium or cadmium, found in many batteries used today. Electric Fuel has developed prototypes of the batteries which can be used with most popular cellular telephones and is in the process of developing a pilot production line to produce the batteries in its plant in Bet Shemesh, Israel. "Our battery will provide the same convenience for the cell phone that 'AA' batteries have given the Walkman(R) and pagers for years," says Yehuda Harats, president and CEO. "Business travelers and 'power-users' are the primary market for this stronger, lighter, disposable battery. However, anyone who has had their cell phone battery die at the 'wrong time' will appreciate the ability to pick up a fully-charged, 'ready-to-go' spare for less than $10." Electric Fuel Corporation, with corporate offices in New York City and manufacturing and R&D facilities in Jerusalem, Israel and in Auburn, Alabama, is pioneering the use of zinc-air battery technology for electric vehicles, consumer electronic products, and industrial applications. This press release contains forward-looking statements. There are certain important factors that could cause results to differ materially from those anticipated by the statements made above as set forth in the Company's annual report on Form 1O-K for the fiscal year ended December 31, 1997. Among, but not limited to these factors, are the stage of development of the Company's products, the uncertainty of the market for disposable cellular telephone batteries, and significant future capital requirements.
