From the answer given by Terry Matthews to the first Q in the Conference call, it appears that Sprint ION is:

1. A set of plans rather than a service which can be bought now.

2. Much less bulletproof than required for most corporate data services. i.e. - if a Voice call is lost, who cares. The customer will call back. If a critical Data Network is lost, many businesses are unable to do business.

IMO, if CSCO delivers another fiasco such as they did to AT&T last month, their name will rapidly become mud from a Carrier and Large Corporate data network perspective. There's a huge difference between their traditional strengths and those required to build the ION vision.

But your point is absolutely valid. The analysts are impressed, initially at least, with the Sprint Press release. Reality will sink in sooner or later.

Ian.

many analysts is impressed with Sprint-CSCO plans.NN-ATT deal is much larger, considering size of ATT.

Cisco is the Street's darling. Anyone interviewed on CNBC will mention it as a good play. INTC, MSFT, CSCO, how can you go wrong? That's the sentiment they preach.

I hope Geoffry Moore's writing a new book, "Fat Farm Giants," or something to that effect. In other words, what happens to giants when they have to change. Do they lack the nimbleness they need to move quickly? If they have to move, who has a trailer big enough?

Hey, time for coffee. Enough rambling on subjects I know next to nothing about. My book will be "Ant on the Street." :)
