No question on high end PCs, especially for more sophisticated buyers. second time PCs is a little harder to pinpoint. Most studies show that the consumer market has very different dynamics than the PC market in general, and that there is a class of customer that has buying patterns for PCs that mirror TV and appliance purchases, so considerations like shelf space and brand loyalty drive that business. One of CPQ's great marketing triumphs was identifying that pattern and precisely targeting products along the Sony entertainment model instead of the PC marketing model. I think if you dig back on this thread you will see lots of evidence that this is just not an interesting market for Dell given Dell's business and distribution model.
