CPQ/DEC was a very different sort of merger. Many more issues there. Dec has been a relatively declining firm for over a decade. It's business model is very different from CPQ's; much more services oriented. It represented an effort by Cpq to navigate the encroachment of box makers into the workstation/server space. Huge integration issues are involved. Beyond that, Cpq was in the midst of wrenching changes towards a more Dell like distribution model.

The Tlab/Cien fit is much, much tighter. I would expect to see Tlab moving back up well before the merger. Bought some Cien today as a slightly cheaper way to buy the combo.
