It was a question. If you keep the spread so tight, how does the stock go up in price? It gets more people to buy because they don't have to pay more than is being asked. Is that how it works?

Correct, but another way of looking at it is this:

When the MMs can't seem to agree(wide spread) then little activity follows and conversely, when they do agree(narrow spread) heavy activity follows.
