Paul,

Do you know of any one good source of information on the 432?.. I would like to read even more about it.. it is one of intel chips that really captured my imagination.

Re: 432 + generations = i960. I know I liked the 960. I have always thought of it as one of the best embedded processors (well for at least 5 years now ;-) )

Steve

Re: "Do you know of any one good source of information on the 432?"

Elliot Organic wrote a book on the 432. I doubt it's still in print. But some Libraries may have it.

The 1981 Technical Digest of Papers for the International Solid State Circuits Conference has several papers describing the 432 chips.

Re: "Intel's i960 Risc Processor line is a direct descendant of the iAPX432, with various feature sets depending upon the i960 variant."

For the 80960, there is an excellent book titled "The 80960 Microprocessor Architecture" by Myers and Budde.

Re: "Intel has, for whatever reasons, kept the 960 chips one or two or three technology generations behind the leading edge x86 chips."

Intel puts it's resources where the money is. Besides, one wouldn't want a $10 embedded chip outpacing the high margin x86 processors. Certainly I wouldn't. Speaking only as a shareholder of course.
