I guess the Street didn't like Ken Thompson's appointment to the board of directors.

PRI Automation Names Former Intel Vice President Ken Thompson to Its Board of Directors

BILLERICA, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 1, 1998--PRI Automation, Inc. (NASDAQ:PRIA - news), a leader in semiconductor factory automation, announced today that it has named Ken Thompson to its board of directors. Thompson recently retired from his job as vice president of technology, manufacturing engineering for Intel Corporation [Nasdaq:INTC - news].

''Ken brings his tremendous depth of experience in the semiconductor industry to PRI's board of directors and will be a valuable resource for the company,'' said Mord Wiesler, chairman and chief executive officer of PRI Automation. ''His intimate knowledge of the semiconductor manufacturing process, the capital equipment procurement process and his understanding of overall fab operations will greatly benefit PRI as we work to continuously improve our operations. Thompson recently retired from Intel after working at the company for 25 years. Most recently, he served as vice president of technology, manufacturing engineering for Intel, where he was responsible for managing all of the company's manufacturing engineering and capital equipment procurement. Prior to that he managed all of Intel's microprocessor wafer fabs and had responsibility for establishing and overseeing the company's offshore assembly operations. Before joining Intel, Thompson worked for Ampex Corporation in its core memory group. He received a B.S. degree in Economics from UCLA.

In addition to Wiesler and Thompson, the PRI Automation board of directors includes: Mitch Tyson, president and chief operating officer of PRI; Dr. Amram Rasiel, a private investor; Boruch Frusztajer, president of BBF Corporation; Alexander d'Arbeloff, chairman of the board of Teradyne Inc., and chairman of MIT's board of trustees; and Paul Rogan, executive vice president of PRI's Equipe division.
