Steve,

There is a lot of suggestions that Cyrix has absolutely no plans for the MII other than to let it die a slow death in favor of the MediaGX. First, they decided to change the name of 6x86MX without any parallel changes in the arquitecture. If they had, indeed, planned on delivering a Cayenne based processor in the coming months, it would have been smarter to reserve a name change for that time. It is, therefore, likely that no fundamental change in arquitecture is forseeable in the next 6 months. Second, I have seen no mention of Cayenne by anyone associated directly with Cyrix in the last 6 months. Third, if you read between the lines of the public statements, it is clear that MediaGx is getting the bulk of effort and resources. I, therefore, conclude that the only reason they are continuing with the MII is to maintain a foundry relationship with IBM so as to have access to advanced process technologies should it ever call for it. MII is dead and so will Cyrix if the MXi is not work of art. Thank you for your opinions. Overall, they have been right on.
