The equipment for those big dishes is more expensive. getting service work done is expensive. You have, or used to have, more choices in programing, but more and more of that is scrambled. Lightning and wind storms cause damage to them. Make sure it's on your homeowner insurance policy.

PrimeStar is a provider for a lot of those dishes. They may move you to digital. Call your local cable company, they sell PrimeStar packages.

I'd go buy a cheap, small dish, where the provider subsudizes the equipment.

Dish dilema;
Take that saucer and tossit...basically junk. You might be able to do something..but what a headache it might be. You'd likely end up spending more refurbing that...than a whole new DISH system would cost.

Use the poll or where ever its mounted for maybe the DISH or DirectTV pico dish. Do a drive in the area and see where your distant neighbors have their little Dishes pointing and see if it will jive with the current big dish location.

PS...also might make a cool floating thingy for the little bass to hide under.

David,
Here is what I would do. Get a good dual band (C, Ku) LNC (Low Noise Converter) and a dual band receiver. I assume that the dish is on a polar mount and is able to sweep the Clarke Belt. There are still plenty of open feeds on C band worth looking at and everything new is going Ku. You use your TV or converter box to decode the digital.
Happy cherry picking.
