Alan, I would be very surprised if Dell purchases another company. Were I at the helm of Dell I would say "If it ain't broke don't fix it!" In other words, they have perfected the impossible dream of inventing a company that is simultaneously a hyper-growth company and a cash cow.

The area I see for expansion beyond their current market is to port the existing manufacturing/ marketing/ cash management techniques to another item. I don't think of Dell as a technology company. I think of it as a light manufacturing/ assembly company. There is one other thought that occurs to me. Dell has been so successful in running their business that maybe they should go into management consulting. Watch out Ernst & Young!
