can you elaborate a little on market makers for those more naive than yourself. Who/what are they? How do they operate? What is motivating them in this instance.

Hard to imagine anyone being more naive than I when it comes to Wall Street, but MMs are just those guys who buy and sell for the institutions. They're the brokers' brokers. I'm not paranoid enough to think they're out to get any particular company, but I'm also not so naive as to think they don't manipulate the price if there's a stock they want to hold.

Take heart. What they beat to a pulp one day, they raise to mythic status the next.
