Prediction: INTC will beat their estimate by $.03. Quarter is not over, but earnings have been lowered so much this year that they will do fine...

Looks like H&Q was looking for a buying opportunity...

"At this point, I can say that we do not have anything
planned for today" said Intel spokesman Howard High

OK, but what about tomorrow?

It's been reported that Intel is selling PII's well below wholesale. I can't imagine them making the numbers this quarter.

If Intel does not pre-announce, it'll be hit with shareholders' lawsuits. On the other hand, with x86 prices spiraling downward, Intel may be reluctant to pre-announce early lest they may have to do it again in early July.

Joey,

And I would warn you not to get too comfortable with the idea of Intel missing by a couple of $0.01. If Intel doesn't come in $.05 above the estimates we will see another big sell off like at the last earnings. The street comes to expect at least a nickle over whatever the estimate is. For Intel that bar may be even higher.

More importantly if Intel misses by a couple of $0.01 then all hell could really break loose. Numerous sources are talking about slow downs for the rest of this year and part of next year. Intel can't escape the entire industry downturn. If this Q's CC is anything but "the world is great and we will make twice as much money next quarter as we did for the last 5 years" then this stock is going in the crapper (for now at least).

The market in gerenal is WAY over-valude. Intel is trading at what 12-14x earnings (I think, but the number is irrelevant). If Intel says Q3 will be flat and q4 slightly up, intel will trade at 6-8x earnings.

Steve

Joey,

What I liked about Intel's statement was that it was reactive. We've had too little public reactiveness from them. When outright untruths are being widely rumored, giving the company perspective even if it is still somewhat ambiguous is better than no reaction at all.

It was about time.
