Chip,

I personally thought the interview was VERY positive.

Ballard emphasized that 3dfx is the ONLY player in the market that has consistently delivered and executed. Honestly.. sure it hurts to have the stock price get killed, I've recommended the stock to many people and they're taking a bath, but remember what matters in the long term for the stock price and the company is earnings and profits. And 3dfx is going to maximize those. If that means keeping quiet about future products before they about to be released, so be it.

Sure I would love for them to announce Banshee and Voodoo3 tommorow and bump up the short term stock price. But in the long term, 3dfx strategy will prove itself. Ballard mentioned, their policy is not to pre-announce specs until the product is about to be produced. Let's trust these business guys who built this awesome fast growing company.

Think about it guys, if they announce the specs of Banshee or Voodoo3 it gives their competitors the performance specs to shoot for and will hurt the retail sale of Voodoo2.

With all the hoopla, RIGHT NOW.. Voodoo2 is selling like hotcakes. And the simple fact is, Voodoo2 is dominating sales. Intel 740? PowerVR? Rendition V2200? It's hard to find them, and the average consumer won't be as thourough as I was. And to play the best games like Unreal and F-15, you have to get Voodoo2. (yea yea, Unreal supports PowerVR, but you need Voodoo2 to play it well)

If and when Matrox G200 and Riva TNT comes out in August and September, I can practically guarantee its going to take a while (months?) for them to deliver in volume. Like Ballard says, "it takes a while to establish a market presence." And as a high end gamer, are you going to sacrifice 3dfx glide content, for extra 3d power for just a few months. Voodoo3 will probably come in early 1999.

Think about it guys, trust that Voodoo2 is going mean tons of profits through the end of 1998 (partly because of being available in volume and the name brand on the retail end), Ballard mentioned they hope to sell Bansheee to OEMs (Dell? Gateway? Micron?) for late 1998/1999, and then Voodoo3 in 1999.

Earnings ARE going to accelerate and the stock price will eventually follow suit. 3dfx has delivered in the past, and I believe it will continue to do so in the future.
