welcome, i see this is your first SI post... a small proviso, if you will: ampex may recall for you what nostalgia alone may cast in charm (i.e., 8 tracks...)... well, along with many of us here, i also share such affectionate memories. but if you expect the present day ampex to be any less similarly cast (i.e., in an imprecise vocabulary) you may be rather disappointed. as wise and worldly as this thread is... and i feel the posters here rank among the best of the best, BAR NONE: i expect only the most abstract of speculation could possibly do justice to your (frustrated) plea, and thus, that may be all you will find here. good luck, randy
