I'd be interested to hear comments on the Micrascan III+ -- looks like they're going to keep their lead in field size. Especially, I wonder how much advantage the catadioptric lens will provide, given that they're going to need (I assume) a 248nm laser. Will their lens help in this configuration.

For investing, I have always had two big reservations about SVG -- first, I don't generally like companies with their lack of focus, being in three different areas only marginally related. They seem to be refocussing on litho (and a nice buy on the in-house opticals). Second and more important, they just don't seem to know how to make money.

It looks as if they are going to be very well-positioned for a theoretical stepper/scanner explosion in 99 or thereafter, with the MIII+ and their capacity ramp-up, although if the recovery takes too long, they're going to pay for all of that capital expenditure until the orders increase. And also, Intel has apparently abandoned its "identical fab" philosophy and is going to vary equipment more from fab to fab.
