correction
this graph looks like the right side of a cup and handle,
with the handle starting immediately the day of the announcement

announcement should be changed to split.

i came up empty in my search on the net for this study, but i ran across the 2 for 1 stock split so many times as being bullish in a psychological way that it probably doesn't matter.

later criticism of the study included the fact that the study used monthly data in its examination and that the test was based on the actual date of split, not the announcement. apparently, this would be important due to the fact under efficient markets the price would adjust itself based on the news not the split. if mgmt was confident enough that the split was warranted (implying future growth in the process) the stock would adjust on the information when it was released not the actual split.

Miles, thanks for all of the information. I'll have time to read it all this weekend.
