The scheme (if any) to me is a bit confusing. Mason, the crux of the "channel stuffing" "dilemmma"/cover-up (according to hpeace-(don't hit me!)). It seems now he times the news about a possible losing quarter, butted up against ftc approval of DEC to soften the blow? possible-maybe.

Possible scenario #2:
>>One is short Compaq and the other doesn't have a position in the stock<< A short tale to cover before the storm.??

Usually the acquiring company gets a 1 time 'get out of jail free' card when the financials are combined, because it really is hard to slam the books together. I doubt that Earl said anything to signal a loss - there will never be a better time to throw that smoke bomb, and if Earl doesn't make it all look OK I will be real surprised.

That plan makes great sense if the company is actually on track for a decent Q3, why not start the takeoff run now? Those who dig back to my march-april posts will find (I think) that I outlined this strategy at that time. I also said what I was gonna do when we got to this point so I won't repeat myself (except to say that proceeds from those 6000 Dell I sold at 91 will come in handy).

The dates are lining up perfectly, these guys are executing like a drill team. My guess would be that those on the sidelines should place their bets, the wheel is in spin.
