So far LU's purchases are small since it cannot utilize an exchange of shares to buy. This restriction will change come October.

For LU and CSCO to go head-to-head in the competition for the billions of dollars in the voice/data infrastructure market, LU must acquire some networking company that has a spectrum of networking products, not another niche company. Likewise CSCO must do an alliance with some big telecom like NT to gain the equivalent telecom technology.

I look at this like a chess game, LU and CSCO go far have just set-up the pawns ...
