Steve, about the only sector that is strong right now is the airline sector

having said that UAL is underperforming others

low PE great % capacity, low fuel prices

I would expect to see this one recover some

but a retiree should NOT be taking a bet on all/most of the money he/she needs to live on in stocks, let alone a single issue

you said he

the key word here is "some"

what he should do depends on his entire financial position
primarily what % of the total is locked in UAL
and of course the tax situation of holding/selling this stock

there is no easy answer here without knowing the whole picture
