Many of us who lurk around the phone biz really appreciate your views and experience. Please do not be offended by responders who do not share your views or viewpoints. This thread is slow enough for such an exciting industry.

I personally do not think MOT can get out of its own way, and by themselves are the reason the US is stuck with obsolete analog systems. I live in rural Vermont and now finally are starting to have coverage equal to what rural Norway had in the 70's.

In '75, I traveled to Svalbard, 80 degrees N. as a supplier to Norwegian Tel Co. We built alt.power systems, wind solar diesel at remote sites. At that time I could call Vermont, and be called, when 70 miles from Longyearbeen, while dodging icebears. Wish I had held Ericy & Nokia since then. Instead, I have been rolling Nokia calls for the last 2 years, for 6 figure US$ gain. Best time to buy is when MOT warns again!

Keep up the great work.

Tero,
Just so you know, I was actually born in Switzerland, am not an American, and am married to a woman from the defunct DDR, so I'm completely aware of how overblown Americans opinions are of themselves and their economy, although I should say that it's really the press and politicians who are the chief villains in this regard. It's true that those pesky Scandinaves are really just being discovered here. On the other hand Europeans are always looking for ways to downplay American dominance, economic and cultural, and one has has to be careful to make sure one is seeing things the way they really are..Don't have more time.. Dave

Tero, In the QCOM thread you refered to how dominant GSM will be in China. I posted this link which supports your view and was amazed not one person commented on it. Most in the forum are quite intelligent and have a lot of expertise . Numbers don't lie but most refuse to look at them. I think cdma wont go away but gsm/tdma wont either. Much more to me is at risk for the gsm crowd if the proposed standard is not favorable to them so I would expect they will have more to say about any standard then most think. I have read that the proposal about the chip would really hinder the gsm systems so I don't think that will fly. I also think the cdma and gsm debate will be around for quite some time.

Jim
