(NYSE: CLE) reported today sales for the four weeks ended May 30 were
$41,924,000, up 14 percent over $36,883,000 reported for the four weeks ended
May 31 1997. Same store sales were down one percent for the comparable four

the second quarter, which ends August 1.
"Merchandise gross margins also continue to improve as a result of our
direct import program and should continue to improve throughout the year,"
Mr. Schaefer added.
