I'll try and show you how this can be resolved.

100 shares true but 300 shares shorted. the 300 short sellers go looking for shares, 100 fill at reasonably high prices. Now there are 100 shares and 200 illegal. The next 100 shorts are covered by the first 100 who get a price they want, even higher than before. Now, there are 100 shares and 100 shorts. Ultimately the 100 long get "their price"..

While all this is going on, the shorters are stalling and begging and usually getting more time. 3 for 1 is a rather extreme scenario. Just accept that at the end of it, the price may be higher but there will only be 100 shares and warrants only for those 100

The covering must occur before the record date, other wise the shorters have to also go and buy warrants as well (they will be tradeable I think but will be cheap since the strike price is a lot higher than the current price).
