I think that MB must have written part of the above article as it reiterates what he wrote in response to my note yesterday. Here's the particular passage from today's Techweb article:

"South Korea's Big Three DRAM producers tried to rescue profits more than a year ago using the same tactic, but met with limited success. While their 1997 production cutback raised DRAM price temporarily, U.S. DRAM maker Micron Technology used the opportunity to increase production of its chips in an effort to steal market share from its South Korean competitors.

Micron's move helped trigger a new price crash that has persisted for more than a year with little relief for DRAM vendors."
