ASP Confusion....

I have been hearing (and reading in articles) a lot during this most recent volatility with DELL stock that ASPs were off 8% for the quarter....and that's BAD?! I am confused. The 99Q1 press release shows that "Average total revenue/unit" (same as ASP??) dropped from $2,700 from the year ago qtr to $2,500 and from $2,600 to $2,500 sequentially. This looks like roughly an 8% decline over the year and a 4% decline from last quarter. Granted, the decline increased dramatically from 4Q98. I've seen articles were computers as a whole dropped 25-30% over the last year, and reseller reports of price drops in the teens quarter over quarter.

To me, it looks like the revenue per unit is holding up WAY better than the industry as a whole. Can anybody share light on this? Why woud the stock get knocked for that?

P.S - Just purchased a DELL Dimension XPS R400 and I am very pleased with the less than one week delivery time, quality, price and PERFORMANCE! Definitely the best price/value/quality BOX out there that I researched (also saved $180 in sales tax).

Mark

Lee thanks for the welcome,

Glad to see that there are investors that actually know what they are investing in.

DELL is on the rise and will rebound from any short term adjustments

Enjoy

Good afternoon Lee,

I found an interesting site for fundamentals:

207.226.179.207

According to this site Dell has the lowest YPEGs of the large boxmakers. Dell = 1.00, IBM = 2.30 and HWP = 1.40. CPQ's YPEG was not calculated. So, on a relative valuation basis it could be argued that DELL is cheap!

TTFN,
