On this date in music history in 1937 Freddy Fender was born Baldemar
Huerta in San Benito, Texas. His biggest hit was the million-selling # 1 hit
"Before the Next Teardrop Falls" in 1975. He appeared in Robert
Redford's film "The Milagro Beanfield War."

Gordon Waller of Peter & Gordon was born in Braemar, Scotland. The
duo's biggest hit was the # 1 song "A World Without Love," which was
written by Paul McCartney.

Michelle Phillips of The Mamas and the Papas was born Holly Michelle
Giliiam in 1945 in Long Beach, California. The group's biggest hit was the
million-selling # 1 song "Monday, Monday." Phillips later acted in the show Knot's Landing.

The # 1 Billboard pop hit in 1958 was" The Purple
People Eater," Sheb
Wooley. Wooley played Peter Nolan on the TV series Rawhide. He also
recorded comic recordings under the name Ben Colder and wrote the "Hee
Haw" theme song.

"Legends of American Music" series of 29 first-class stamps.
