To tell you the truth, I'm not sure what the Bell Atlantic announcement means, and the stock activity suggests that not many others know or care either. How many lines are projected? Surely someone at Bell Atlantic must have a marketing plan? WSTL is involved in the "initial" rollout. Huh? If BA installs, say, 125,000 lines in 1998, what does that mean in terms of revenue and profits to WSTL?

By way of example, we can hazard a guess on how many PCs Dell will ship next Q and infer Dell's profit from that, and analyze further considering growth rates, management guidance the position of the moon and such to eventually get to a stock price. Try that with WSTL. The only thing to hang a hat on the last few years is WSTL mgmt guidance, and that's been worse than bad.

Profits are the ultimate driving force behind the success or failure of any company, so, yes, profits will help change the street's opinion.

so what you are saying is that the only way for a rise in the price of WSTL is through direct earnings and not on any news, no matter how good it is? If so, we should be able to use this 'delay' to our advantage.
