<<What makes you think the "shorts" are going to cover now? >>

Seeing the stock drop 30+% on less than 150,000 shares would make me think that it is going to remain volatile, and technically speaking, more likely to the upside. There obviously are almost no buyers, but more important to the shorts, there are very few sellers, either. This isn't going to escape the notice of short traders. In other words, if the stock moves 30% on miniscule volume, there aren't enough shares for sale at $10 to cover the enormous short position. If I had a big gain as a short, I'd want to be first in line for my profit under the circumstances.

In other words, a breath of good news at this point will run the stock up as fast as it came down. The upside risk has increased a lot, and the downside profit has decreased.

This isn't to say a rush for short profit-taking will drive the stock back to $18 or even $14, since a significant number of sellers are going to appear if the stock has any sort of recovery. But all in all, it will add some significant buy-side pressure to the price.
