I am not in financial straits. I own my home, well maintained, owe no money and live very comfortably. At 74 with no legs I feel fortunate and have adjusted myself to the situation. I am neither pitiful to myself or friends, and have no desire for such. I just take life as it comes and try to be content and do what I am able to stay independent. Seems our views of government are the same. I have had my share of interference from government interference. I had to buck city hall for building permits and business license and though I persisted and won the battle, I lost the war. I was denied my legal rights and could not get a lawyer to defend me against the city. I had to literally work and get a new councilman elected to overcome the problem. When I went to the board of appeals after the election they said go get your permits, your building and parking meet all our requirements. And this from the same board that told me before the property would never qualify. Our state has a homestead exemption for the people over 65. Just one little catch. Your income has to be below $8500. Our mayor has gone wild building an arena and NFL stadium. My taxes have doubled and there is a bill before the council to raise taxes to build a new 300 million dollar library. Naturally another bill is considered to raise taxes. I am paranoid about crooked lawyers, crooked laws written by them in violation of the constitution, and crooked governments and crooked politicians. Bankruptcy and lawyers are two things I want no part of. Been the victim of both.
