Jim - Re: " Something must be wrong if Cyrix hasn't been able to enable the softmodem in the GX in 1.5 years. "

Will Cyrix be issuing a refund to MediaGX customers or will they replace defective chips with new ones that work properly?

Paul

Jim, Norton reported my PII/300 (96MB) as 100% utilized for a few seconds after sign-on then spiked a few more times before settling down to near-zero. Normal surfing consumes 2-18% of the CPU. I used an external USR Courier V. Anything 56K attached to an ISDN MODEM analogue port for the test. From all the disk activity, my guess is that the browser (IE 4.0 in my case) doesn't load some of the code until after it achieves a connection.

Cyrix/NSM listed several job opportunities for MODEM engineerings several months ago. Just last week there were 36 unfilled engineering positions ... 16 for VLSI engineers. Either they are having trouble with employee retention or big things are a doin'.
