Spent some time talking to Informix "partners" at their conference this week about the press releases you referenced. Interesting feedback in that:

1. Their attitudes toward Informix was very positive
2. The Partners that used the 4GL tools were very pleased about the updates / new releases by Informix. The message was, it protects their development investments and they can easily extend exising apps. My take is that it's like Cobol..... it just doesn't die easily.

The net of this is positive. Informix has major customers around the world using the 4GL tools. This will provide upgrade revenues ($$$$ sales) and keep end users and Partners that want this in the Informix camp.

The NT announcement was also well received. It was interpreted as Informix finally getting serious about the NT market. Not the "mass shrink wrap" market, the corporate market that will be Unix and NT for many, many years. They like that fact that the Informix-based Applications can transparently access and integrate data, and execute transactions across NT and UNIX. These large companies can leverage DBA and developer skills across the enterprise, through the use of Informix's common systems management, development tools and programming interfaces.

Informix continues to move in a focused, calculated manner. This will be good for revenues and the stock.......
