Mr. Powers said Newbridge is facing tougher competition from new products launched by rivals such as Lucent Technologies Inc., Cisco Systems Inc., Northern Telecom and Ascend Communications Inc.

That's not a bad article. And we all know the competition is there and that NN can meet it. As Mr. Lutz said, "Newbridge has a wonderful portfolio of technology. . . the next one or two quarters will be dedicated to improved execution."

It appears most analysts are in listen-only mode when it comes to backing the company. I spoke with one of H&Q's analysts yesterday and asked what would make them change their rating and he said an uptick on CSI architecture. [Need someone to explain.] I then asked if they'd included any China (Guangdong) revenues in their model, and he said, no. Since TM mentioned both as having improved growth, it seems to me there's a lot of room for upside.

BTW, I'll be talking to some of NN's management at the show and plan to ask for clarity on the conference call versus analysts' responses.

Later ---

Pat

As other techs report its clear that Newbridge is ahead of most. Motorola is laying off and reporting less, as are so many others.. Newbridge is ramping up, its order books are getting fatter and modest new hiring. Newbridge is in a sense fortunate to have suffered the need to restructure after its purchase and now finds itself coming out of the gate with a fresh spirit as was evident in the cc.

As others report over the next months, perhaps the pessimists will appreciate how good the company is performing.
