"Odds Good for Another Day of Higher Prices" Thursday June 04, 1998 (4:36 pm EST) By Paul Cherney, S&P Market Analyst NEW YORK, Jun. 04 (Standard & Poor's) - Bears got squeezed on Thursday. Wednesday's overnight systems generated short-term buy signals which usually produce back to back days of solid advances. If the pattern holds, Thursday was day one, and Friday should be day two. Headlines move markets. There has been a new element of interest rate risk introduced by the Bank Of England's surprise 25 basis point tightening on Thursday, so it's possible something in our employment report could put the bond market on its ear and send stocks tumbling. However, the positive divergences generated in Wednesday's market suggest that the odds remain better than average that the equity markets will see another day of higher prices. This remains a nervous market.
