Actually, the K6-2 is a pretty good chip. The floating point 3D instructions seem to produce fast gaming graphics on the limited benchmarks that AMD has presented.

If the K6-2 competed by itself, it would be a a runaway successful chip. However, it exists in a highly competitive market - such as the 300 MHz Celeron, as you noted - and it's success will be muted by the manufacturing, technology and marketing prowess of its competitors.
