Joe,
Hi!!!

<<<Dell Computer Corp upped the ante in the already cut-throat and
competitive PC market this week, with the announcement that it plans
to slash its inventory costs by half by year-end. At present the
company's total inventory is equivalent to approximately seven or
eight days' worth of sales.>>>

Thanks so much for this post...It immediately reminds me of the comments Michael made when others began their attempt(s) at emulating Dell BTO...somewhere I have the direct quote but to paraphrase: Michael told us "we believe we are too far ahead of (the others were too late) the others and have more important things to accomplish...(rather than worry about someone else copying their methods)

Interesting post...Dell is so driven to be the perfectionist even when they are miles ahead.

Best, Kemble

Joe, I read and reread that article about halving inventory levels, and I don't understand how it's possible. Just looking at the finished goods side how long is the average burn-in period for a computer, and do they consider the sale as soon as the computer is in the hands of a common carrier, or do they wait until the customer is in receipt of the goods?

TTFN,
CTC
