The leptin delay was due to problems in the negotiations. The Science article is essentially "in press". The two events are really not comparable. (Actually, I would put the current rumor source in a category that is MORE reliable than IR).

I would be VERY surprised if the article was not published this month. Actually, there should be several news items this month, based in part by the recent BARS report on ONTAK.

I wonder if this 'major news' will be in the "print version" or only in the "on-line" version :-)

(Does anyone remember the 'major' Ligand Interview (the one that made Ligand a 'household name') that was in Business Week (the on-line version only))?

Actually, the Science article will be on-line and in the printed version. Although most scientists get Science's printed version, more and more rely upon the on-line version because of hot links, etc.

I expect the Science article to generate a fair amount of news in the printed version of the popular press also. How long it takes for the public and street to grasp the significance of the publication is of course a major wild card.

As you know, the three diabetes articles that were predicted (Business Week, Financial Times, and NY Times) were all published, although the publications were a bit later than expected (due in part by the liver enzyme elevations linked to Rezulin). The Business Week and NY Times articles are linked to home.att.net under Background Info.
