All of those peculiar pronunciations come from the northwest. As a transplanted easterner it seems very odd to me. My favorite is "kittycorner" for catercorner. Apparently the pronunciation of the "cater" conjured up images of a feline, and kitty is a diminutive pussycat.

When my sister went to college in Maryland, "realtor" somehow came back sounding like "reelidder". Three syllables. I suspect a regionalism.
My wife pronounces "groceries" as "growsh'ries". I can't help but mentally picture the word as being spelled "grocieries". Ooh, that one grates on me, but with the cost of divorce these days...
