DLC's are still being deployed. DSC has 8million lines on their DLC and Lucent has "I think" ~25million lines on their SLC-96 "doesn't support ADSL", SLC-5 and SLC-2000.

>> We've all assumed that Alcatel will have some sort of inside track to Bell Atlantic DMT ADSL because of their purchase of DSC. <<

The DSC Litspan is a DLC that can be housed in the CO or RT. You don't find the LU SLC series in the CO. Lucent will have the 5ESS in the CO. I've assumed that Alcatel will provide their own DMT solution for this DSC product. I'm still under the impression that all DMT silicon is still to power hungry to place on a line card for the litespan.

>> If we're just talking upgrading the DLC's I don't see how ALA would have an advantage because they own the manufacturer of the switches, switches which BA has already purchased. <<

I generally agree, but Westell hasn't won a single contract going up against Alcatel. History is in Alcatel's favor. Westell should be able to provide CAP or DMT line cards for the DSC units. This may have been the reason DSC was upset when they were forced to partner with Westell.

>> Seems to me the field is open to any and all solutions, may the best (and cheapest) win. <<

Seems Alcatel can offer a great price. This is one reason they won just about every contract so far.

>> Westell has the lead as they've been working with DSC for quite some time. <<

I've only seen a CAP based solution on the Litespan, but DSC was working with the ADI DMT chips...

>> ALA Mini-Ram: <<

This product requires it's own power and racking in the RT. Westell's solution will use the existing power and racking of the DSC and Lucent platforms.

>> .While things seem bad now, I don't think I'm selling, certainly not today with Supercom starting monday. <<

I agree... have a good weekend.. until later.
