Computer Systems & Peripherals
Brief: Compaq was a notable laggard in an otherwise strong PC group, ending down an 1/8... After the close, analyst at NationsBanc Montgomery Securities reiterated his BUY rating... In other news, FTC cleared its pending acquisition of DEC... Dell was the big winner, recovering Wednesday's loss and then some after an analyst at Lehman Bros. noted that recent checks with Dell indicate that revenue growth remains strong across all geographies and all product lines... IBM, Gateway, and Hewlett-Packard all finished noticeably higher... The disk drive makers turned ina relatively lackluster performance, and somehow (but not surprisingly) managed to miss out on the broad-based rally... EMC strengthened its European presence in opening a direct subsidiary in Spain, and was the only component to gain at least a point.

Hi Steve; A belated thanks for your welcome although been in and out of CPQ for years. Yes just bought back in: hope to be for the long haul. Think it is about to commence a change of status - a new era, don't know when it will actually start to be reflected in stock price, but hoping that we are not too soon. Worried about earnings this quarter and possibly next but hoping that the company will do all it can to put a positive spin on it.

Victor
