My indications are that the top of the line PowerBook (i.e., 292Mhz with 14.1 screen) will be released from production today.

Travis,
Is it a CPU crunch? or some other part like the display?
One good side effect is they will all sell at list price and none left over. Perhaps they tried to be safe and avoid surplus and it sold better than they had predicted and the CPU and display ramp up horizon is so far out they could not catch up.

Travis- nice Fortune article

Mac is Back- pathfinder.com

Maybe it's old news; I just read it. Maybe not technically 100% correct, but good enough for Suits.

As for no ready supply of PowerBooks- the word is out right here on this board.

I think it will help reduce previous inventory. The local COMPUSA has no demos- the Appleshirt's explanation was really lame... I expect they want to reduce inventory to zero. How could you pay $1800 for a 1400 vs $2200 for Mainstreet? No way. Besides, sales through the Applestore have got to be at higher margin than through retailers.

It ain't all bad news to have such a hot product you can't sell enough of them. (I know, I know, I know. But every piece of news has a positive spin as well as an engineering spin!)

The word is getting out that Apple's not able to get the laptops out.

I ordered my Powerbook G3 on May 20th from the Apple Store. It was shipped out Wednesday, 6/3 and arrived today (6/5). Nice machine. 250mhz,12.1", 2gig, cd, modem.
