It is general contractor for and part owner of the $5 billion Iridium global cell-phone and paging network, scheduled to begin operation this September. Last month, it agreed to take a 26% stake in Teledesic LLC's planned $9 billion high-speed satellite-communications system, started by communications tycoon Craig McCaw, and to become its prime contractor.
