Keith:
<E-Commerce is a profitless marketplace???>
Reggie:
For some companies yes (ask cybercash), but much more so for portal companies. I do see NSCP spending considerable resources on becoming a portal company. Am I wrong?

Reggie:
Finding the logical flaws in your arguments is actually a nice stress reliever. I thank you for the simple puzzles that you are continually posting.

You are correct that Netscape is spending considerable resources on becoming a portal company. Of course, your statement that E-commerce is a profitless marketplace for Netscape is wrong on its face as Netscape has already made money on E-commerce though sales of its systems to companies like Citibank and Ford.

CyberCash's problems have nothing to do with E-Commerce in general and more to do with issues such as acceptance, competition from the installed base of credit card companies, etc. Look at companies such as Dell, which is making a substantial percentage of its revenue from web sales to see the success of E-Commerce.

I do see NSCP spending considerable resources on becoming a portal company. Am I wrong?

The key here is focusing on the proper decisions about which resources to build, buy, or partner for components of the portal solution. If this is managed properly, then the amount of resources that need to be dedicated are not considerable, especially relative to the ROI. For example, we're not spending effort developing content. We're creating
partnerships for that. We are spending effort developing technology to be used in the portal site. The overriding concept is to create a roaming virtual desktop that people can tap into wherever they have access to the Internet. For example, they will have access to their own personal address book.

As for anyone being able to see it, was the reason for the change in reporting periods footnoted
and/or indicated orally by mgmt? Why were the asset sales labeled generically instead of letting
us know specifically what was sold? Were these monies listed as non-operating profit so as to
let all of us now that your operating profits were still at a loss or was everything lumped into
operating profits so as to appear that NSCP's operations are improving?

These are good questions for which I do not have an answer. But in any case, I believe that this only affects the short-term bottom-line.
Long-term, we have the proper strategy. So whether the stock dips down again in the short-term, I believe we have the correct strategy for the long-term.

I really didn't look that deep into this, so these are real and not rhetoric questions.
