You're right in that there are major differences in the libel laws of our countries (it would be good to hear from SIer lawyers on the exact differences) - but we do consider ourselves to be free to relate news, to comment on it, to supply our own editorial opinion at will. When some twit of a TSE bureaucrat in a fit of cowardice uses its considerable legal budget to stifle dissent among its campesinos, he is making a threat against the right to free speech of all of us.
