Let me assure you that machining to tight tolerances today is not a problem. Current CNC machines(Computer numerical controls) are capable maintaining a tolerance of plus or minus several microns. A micron being defined as one millionth of a meter. One meter = 39.4 in, so one micron = 0.0000394 in. I have personally worked with CNC machines that have built in gages that measures each part and compensates for any deviation from standard.

The wearing of parts and lubrications will not be a problem. It is not difficult to achieve suitable Rockwell hardness by using the proper alloy mixture combined with special treating. Lubrication has also come a long way with the development of synthetic oils. Use your favorite search engine and search for lubrication and synthetics oil, you will see what I'm talking about. With the engines rotational design, I would speculate that a large part of the lube system would be very similar to a sleeve bearing. In sleeve bearing, friction is reduced by the rotating component riding on a oil wedge.

I'm still debating myself with the performance of the OX2 engine. Looking forward to seeing some test results. While waiting for these results I can't help looking at those applications where performance is not an issue. When you think about theses application, the engine is usually running at speed, idle or off. No need for torque's over a wide range. The torque requirements of these engines would be custom built with the application in mind.

Some non performance applications ?

Electric generators and welders...
Lawn and garden equipment, mowers, tractors, chain saws ...
Industrial air compressors construction equipment ..
Portable hydraulic units..
Small outboard motors.
Golf carts.
forklifts..

These were just few that come to mind, I'm sure there a hundred more.

I'm very optimistic that there are niches, very profitable niches, out there where the OX2 will be the engine of choice. If the performance data is half of what AENG claims, this will be the engine of millennium.
