Yeah, they might tell you that, but they can still do it.

That's what E-trade told Hangin Long until he ask for it in writing, then they retracted their statement and told him that if he didn't want them loaned, he had to ask for the certs.

OK, I am not urging anyone to call for their certificates. That is your personal decision. However, for your information, certificates can be kept under your mattress (not recommended), in your bank safe deposit box (safer), with your broker for safekeeping (pretty good), or in street name (the normal thing). I don't care what anyone's broker tells them, they can and do loan your shares out to be shorted. Some brokerages do this more than others. If you don't believe me, ask them to put in writing that your shares in ICVI will never be loaned out. See what they say :-) Talk is cheap, signatures are legally binding.
